Lunar Eclipse

Tijdens een maansverduistering komt de maan in de schaduw van de aarde. Toch zien we haar roodachtig kleuren. Dat gebeurt doordat zonlicht in de dampkring van de aarde wordt gebogen: blauw licht verstrooit, rood licht bereikt de maan. Een eenvoudig natuurkundig proces met een groots visueel effect. Mijn schilderij is op dit bijzondere fenomeen geïnspireerd.

During a lunar eclipse, the Moon moves into the shadow of the Earth. Yet we still see it turn a reddish color. This happens because sunlight is bent through the Earth’s atmosphere: blue light is scattered, while red light reaches the Moon. A simple physical process with a grand visual effect. My painting is inspired by this phenomenon.
